I spent most of the day yesterday working on taxes. If you are a business owner and fill out a schedule C, you know what I’m talking about. Gathering all your expenses, receipts, mileage, and tax write-offs. Uggghhh. It’s especially hard if you’re like me and you let those receipts pile up. So each receipt has to be logged, categorized and totaled. I know I am leaving cash on the table. I know I’m not recording all of my deductions especially since I started using 2 apps that will make my tax year so much easier. Want to know what they are?
- Expensify – This app has been impressive! No more piled up receipts. No more long hours categorizing and totaling my expenses. This app is amazing. All you do is snap a pic of your receipt and watch it do the work. The smart scanning feature is impressive. It has scanned those long post office receipts, and even poorly printed receipts. This app will automatically categorize the receipt. All you need to do is add them to a report and email it to yourself. Or if you get a receipt emailed to you such as a travel receipt, you can forward that to your expensify account to be categorized and added to your expense reports. So super simple and such a time saver. You won’t leave cash on the table any longer with this app! You get 10 free scans a month. If you need more than that, they offer plans from $5 and up a month. If you think about it, $5 a month is worth all the headache of tracking expenses.
- MileIQ – Mileage logging has never been easier. This app has auto detection! It knows when you’ve taken a drive, where and how many miles. Once your miles are logged, all you have to do is swipe right to classify it for business or swipe left for personal. It’s really that easy and fast! No more forgetting to write down mileage or scrabbling to track where you traveled at the end of year for taxes. Simply email yourself the report!
Utilizing your smart phone for business is really the best way to go. We always have our phones on us and these 2 apps make being an entrepreneur so much easier! Below are a few videos to explain further.
